Philosophy of Education

Abstract

How to define my philosophy of Education? Am I and essantialist or a humanist? I am a mix between both philosophies. I believe the canon to be an indispensable part of the curriculum. I believe that school should provide tiomorrow's citizens with the foundations of our civilization and culture, in order for them to be able to take ownership of their future. If we ignore our History, we cannot control our present, nor can we envision our future. Therefore, I believe the canon to be an essential componenent of the Curriculum. Classroom management is another concern for today's teacher. I believe that making the students more accountable for their actions, and they should be involved in classroom management policy-making. I feel like students should be given as much room as possible, to express themselves and develop, as long as students are able to learn in a safe and nurturing environment.
