Qualitative Research

Abstract

Student teaching is a challenging experience full of new ideas, methodologies and teaching strategies. Being a constructivist student teacher in a behaviorist classroom setting, I observed different attitudes and behaviors from the students in response to my teaching style compared to my mentor teacher’s style. I questioned how behaviorist methodologies affect student learning. Through literature, research and my own observations, I saw the affects. I was able to see how the behaviorist methodology can negatively affect student’s attitudes and behaviors towards learning. Furthermore, I was able to observe the positive impact my constructivist methodology had on the students.
